A Bowling Green man has been arrested after allegedly starting a fire in a Glasgow residence.
On July 4, Glasgow police officers went to Village Circle, off Childress Road and Cleveland Avenue, in response to a fire caused by fireworks that apparently had been started by 19-year-old Shawn Green Jr. after a “verbal argument had taken place,” according to a department press release.
“Green stated that he was going to set off fireworks inside of the residence, igniting them and throwing them on the bed causing a fire inside the residence,” the press release stated. “Green left the residence and was located in Bowling Green by the Kentucky State Police.”
Green, from Bowling Green, was arrested and charged with first-degree arson and three counts of first-degree wanton endangerment. His bond is $2,500 cash with a district court appearance set for July 7 at 12:30 p.m., according to the Barren County Detention Center.
First-degree arson is when a person “with intent to destroy or damage a building” starts a fire when “the building is inhabited/occupied or the person has reason to believe the building may be inhabited or occupied,” the Kentucky Revised Statute stated. First-degree arson is a class A felony.
Glasgow News 1 has requested Green’s uniform citation and will update this information should it be pertinent.
