J.W. Gassaway, 84, of Glasgow died Sunday, July 6, 2025, at St. Thomas West Hospital in Nashville. The Metcalfe County native was born March 3, 1941; he was the son of the late Roy Edward Gassaway and Nellie Frances Whitlow Gassaway.
J.W. was a retired employee of Farmers Rural Electric Cooperative Corp., where he had worked as a lineman and retired as supervisor of the right-of-way crews. He was a sportsman who loved golf, fishing, hunting and horseback riding.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Eugene Gassaway and Bobby Gassaway, and two sisters, Vivian Bryant and Barbara Lois Glass.
Survivors include his son, Greg Gassaway and his wife Kristie; one grandson, Ben Gassaway; one stepgrandson, Garet Payne (Kelby); two stepgreat-grandchildren, Everly and Elley Payne; one brother, Wallace Gassaway (Jane Ann); two sisters, Carolyn Fields (Raymond) and Laverne Watson; special friend and caregiver, Shirley Emmitt; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral is at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 10, 2025, at Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home, with cremation following. Visitation begins at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
