Doris Ann Postlewait Manthey, 86, died peacefully in her home with her husband Norman at her side Monday, June 30, 2025. She was the daughter of the late John H. and Pauline Gray Postlewait, born Sept. 2, 1938, in Toledo, Ohio, where she was raised. She was a 1956 graduate of DeVilbiss High School, where she majored in home economics and nursing. Shortly after graduating, Doris went to work for podiatrist L. Frost as a medical assistant. She later went back to school and was trained by IBM to be a key punch operator. Doris then got a job in the data processing department at Sholz Homes. It was there she met the love of her life, Norman, who was working as an architectural draftsman for the company.
Norm and Doris were married in June 1962 and started a lifetime of adventures together. They enjoyed canoeing, fishing, boating and camping. In 1967, they were blessed with a daughter, Barbara, who grew up accompanying them on their adventures.
In 1983, Norm’s job took them to Bowling Green, Kentucky. Doris soon got a job as the church secretary at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. She was always active in the churches she attended, teaching Sunday school and catechism classes and helping with vacation bible school for all ages. She also participated in adult bible studies.
In 1993, Norm’s job took them to Lima, Ohio. Once settled, Doris went to work at Elder-Beerman Department Store as a representative for Clinique Cosmetics. Soon, she was promoted to be counter manager for Elizabeth Arden Cosmetics and women’s fragrances. After a few years, Doris changed gears and went to work for Lima City Parks as the assistant to the deputy director of parks and recreation. This job gave her many challenges and chances to shine. She was involved in writing grants and organizing citywide events, as well as the day-to-day operations of 14 parks and five water reservoirs. Her abilities as a good communicator and her enthusiasm for working with the public allowed her to be a wonderful asset to the department and the community.
In 2004, Norm finally retired and they moved back south, away from the harsh winters, and closer to the boating and fishing they both loved. That move brought them to Glasgow. While enjoying retirement, Doris was part of the Glasgow Garden Club, an active member of Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Church, and later a member of First Christian Church. She also enjoyed many hours of activities at the Glasgow Highland Games and researching her Scottish heritage of which she was very proud.
Doris is survived by her husband of 63 years, Norman; her daughter, Barbara Manthey Vien of Glasgow; her brother, Jim (Sandy) Postlewait of Sylvania, Ohio; her nieces, Debi (Mike) Booth, and Dawn (Greg) Barrow, all of Toledo, Ohio, and Doreen (Matt) Wingate of Monroe, Michigan; many first and second cousins; and a special friend whom she always considered to be her adopted son, Don Brod of Bowling Green.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant brother and her son-in-law, William Vien.
Doris chose cremation. A memorial service is at 11 a.m. July 26, 2025, at First Christian Church in Glasgow. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. July 25 at the church. Expressions of sympathy may be donations to First Christian Church Ramp Ministry or Food Pantry.
Arrangements are entrusted to Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home.
