Former Western Kentucky University administrator Michelle Trawick has been named the new president of Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College.

Trawick will officially begin her term on July 31, a college press release stated.

She currently serves as a distinguished professor of economics at the University of Nebraska at Omaha and previously held the role of John Becker Dean, professor of economics, for the university’s College of Business Administration after serving at WKU for nearly 20 years in a variety of leadership roles “including associate provost for faculty and academic excellence and associate dean for faculty and administration at the Gordon Ford College of Business,” according to the release.

Trawick holds a doctorate and a master’s degree in economics from North Carolina University and a bachelor’s degree from WKU.

“Returning to Kentucky to lead Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College is both a professional honor and a deeply personal milestone,” Trawick said “As a first-generation college graduate from Logan County, I understand firsthand how education can open doors and transform lives. I am excited to work alongside the dedicated faculty, staff and business and community partners to expand opportunities for learner success and to help shape a workforce that meets the needs of this growing region.”

College system president Ryan Quarles said her leadership as president, with her commitment to student success and workforce readiness, will be “invaluable” to the community and to the region.

“We are so pleased to welcome Dr. Trawick back to Kentucky,” said Ryan Quarles, president of the Kentucky Community and Technical College System. “As a first-generation college graduate with deep Kentucky roots, she brings not only a wealth of academic leadership but a personal understanding of the life-changing power of education. Her experience, vision and commitment to student success and workforce readiness will be invaluable to the community and the region it serves.”

She takes over from Brook Justice, who was named as the interim SKYCTC president on Aug. 19, 2024.

Myers McRae Executive Search and Consulting assisted with the presidential search.
