Following a brief closed session, the Barren County Schools Board of Education gave Amy Irwin an “accomplished” rating for her year as the district’s superintendent.
The board held a special-called meeting at their central office at noon on May 30 with the “evaluation of the superintendent” as the focus of the sparse agenda. In attendance were four of the five board of education members, Irwin, Kentucky Association of School Administrators Executive Coach Fred Carter, Meade County Superintendent and Irwin’s mentor Mark Martin and several members of district staff.
After Irwin’s presentation, wherein she gave examples of how her team worked to accomplish each of the seven superintendent standards — which are strategic, instructional, cultural, human resource, managerial, collaborative and influential leadership — Martin said it was a pleasure working with Irwin and reenforced the opinion impressed upon him by a former Meade County superintendent to “watch Barren County.”
The board members evaluated Irwin on standards 2, 4 and 5, which are instructional leadership, human resource leadership and managerial leadership, and gave her an overall “accomplished rating.”
Vice chair Mike Miller shared his thoughts before adjournment, thanking Irwin for the successful academic year and noting the big shoes she has to fill.
