James Edward Krapf, 76, Columbia, passed away Friday, May 23, 2025. A native of Jersey City, NJ, he was the son of the late Chester Franklin Krapf and Ida Elizabeth Reimer Krapf. He was the only remaining child of Chester and Ida; he was preceded in death by all of his siblings.
James was a retired AK1 Petty Officer with the United States Navy. He also served onboard the USS Midway during the Vietnam War. His civilian activities included his being a train enthusiast.
Survivors include his wife Glenda S. Krapf; three children: Tina Patterson (Col. Richard Patterson (ret.), James Krapf II (Leann), Virginia Gibson (Isaac); seventeen grandchildren: Dakota Krapf, Cherry Krapf, Ivory Krapf (Dawson), Austin Krapf, Tianna King (Chris), William King, Daniel King, James Krapf III, Jaxson Krapf, Athena Krapf, Brandon Ojutkangas (Katie), Thomas Torres-Munoz (Daniel), Elizabeth Patterson (John), Katherine Patterson, Michelle Oglesby (Justin), Kaylee Gibson, and Alex Gibson; nine great-grandchildren: Addison and Ariel King; Odin, Leo, Alice, Felix, and Niko Ojutkangas; Jasper Chance and Damon Burton.
Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 2, 2025 with funeral services at 3:00 p.m. at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Kentucky Veteran’s Cemetery Central in Radcliff on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at 1:30 p.m. EDT. Due to cemetery regulations regarding flowers, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the funeral home toward funeral expenses.
