Hunter Vann entered a guilty plea on Monday, May 5, in Simpson County Circuit Court.

Vann appeared in-person with his attorney and Barren County native Kyle Bunnell, and pleaded guilty to both his charges of third-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (first offense) and criminal attempt to tamper with physical evidence.

Due to his “lifelong, family connection with [Vann] and his family,” Barren County Circuit Judge John Alexander recused himself and 49th Judicial Circuit Judge Mark Thurmond presided over the case.

“The recommended sentence will be 3 years on the felony and 12 months on the misdemeanor, those are going to run concurrently to one another,” Thurmond said. “So the recommended sentence is 3 years. The commonwealth will recommend probation for a period of 3 years [with] the other conditions [being] not to commit new offenses and testify truthfully at any and all proceedings relating to the other individual that’s named in the plea agreement.”

Rosa Ramsey Dallam, assistant attorney general acting on behalf of the commonwealth, said there was an additional agreement, which had already been fulfilled.

His sentencing date is scheduled for Sept. 5 at 9 a.m. Thurmond said he planned to have the sentencing in the Barren County Circuit Courtroom, if possible.
