Mary Elaine Wood, 70, of Glasgow, KY passed away on April 22, 2025. She was born November 19, 1954, in Bowling Green, KY. Elaine loved helping others which guided her to become a nurse, and in her spare time she enjoyed gardening and bird watching. Her greatest enjoyments were found spending time with her husband, her dog, and the rest of her family.
Elaine was preceded in death by her husband Rick Wood, grandson Cameron Wells, parents Barbara Mitchell and Carl Mitchell, brothers Patrick Mitchell and Myron Mitchell. Survivors include daughters Emily Flack (Brian) of Georgetown, KY, Amy Wells (William) of Glasgow, KY, son Alex Wood (Elizabeth) of Glasgow, KY; grandchildren Elizabeth Flack, Melody Flack, Ian Wells; her beloved dog Mo; sisters Sharon McClellan, Karen Watkins (Randy), Janet Contreras; and brother Boyd Mitchell (Sean).
Elaine’s biggest hero was her granddaughter, Melody Flack. She inspired Elaine to fight cancer multiple times. Shriners Hospital of Lexington has played an instrumental role in helping Melody persevere to inspire others. During Elaine’s first battle with lymphoma, she was provided with lodging and resources at the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge of Lexington. Both Shriner’s and Hope Lodge provide free care to those in need of their services and rely fully on donations to do so. To help others, expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to:
