Despite winning only four games during the regular season, the Glasgow Scotties found a way to advance in the Boys’ 15th District Tournament.
The Scotties beat the Warren East Raiders, 74-68, in overtime Tuesday night in the first round of the district tourney to advance to the title game Friday at 6 p.m. against Barren County at Barren County High School.
Glasgow reached overtime in dramatic fashion. With 4.3 seconds left in regulation, Josiah Driver raced the length of the floor with the ball and hit a layup just before the buzzer. That bucket tied the game at 56-all.
Driver hit the first bucket in the extra time, but the Raiders responded with the next two scores to lead 60-58 with 3:08 showing in the OT.
Driver hit a 3-pointer 21 seconds later and Glasgow regained the lead, 61-60. The teams traded free throws and the game was tied 63-63 with 2:07 left.
From there, other players picked up the slack for the Scotties. Quinn Nunley drained a 3 to give his team the lead for good at 66-63 with 1:40 on the clock.
After a basket by East’s Brandon Bratcher — who finished the game with 39 points — Jaylen Bradley converted an and-1, then Driver hit a pair of free throws. The Scotties led 71-65 with one minute left in overtime.
Glasgow struggled to close the door over the next 40 seconds. Bratcher hit a free throw, then rebounded a miss and put back the shot with 40 seconds to play.
The Scotties led, 71-68. They tried to drain the clock, but turned over the ball. With 18.3 left on the clock, Bratcher missed a 3-pointer, and the ball went out of bounds to Glasgow.
Landon Minton iced the game less than nine seconds later when he hit a layup and was fouled. He made the free throw to set the final score of 74-68.
