People are advised to renew their vehicle registration during their birth month even if they do not receive the customary notice in the mail.
Barren County Clerk Helena Chase Birdwell said it’s “been a big debacle” that the January notices have not been sent, but wrote February and March renewal notices should be arriving soon.
“The notices used to be sent out [on] the 15th of the month, but now they supposedly send them out two months in advance,” Birdwell wrote.
According to the county clerk’s website, notices are not necessary for renewals and to find out the total cost of renewal bring “the vehicle identification number, title number, or license plate number ready and contact the Barren County Clerk’s Office…or come in for assistance” and Birdwell encourages customers to bring some form of proof of insurance.
In some cases, renewals can be made online.
Friday is the last day in January. Birdwell said there is a five-day grace period at month’s end before penalties and interest are added.
