Multiple schools in the Barren County School District were recently honored as 2024 America’s Healthiest Schools All Stars by the Alliance for a Healthier Generation.
“Both our nutrition services staff and Barren Beyond the Bell after-school staff are committed to supporting the physical and social-emotional well-being of our students and staff members,” said CheyAnne Fant, director of the district’s nutrition services and Barren Beyond the Bell program. “From delicious school meals to creative, thoughtful programming, they offer a wide range of services to meet the needs of our school communities. I am incredibly proud of them and can’t thank them enough for all they do.”
In October Barren Beyond the Bell and Nutrition Service staff traveled to Little Rock, Ark., to America’s Healthiest Schools Leaders Summit where Austin Tracy, Eastern, Hiseville, North Jackson, Park City, Temple Hill elementaries, Barren County Middle School and Barren County High School were recognized for “implementing [the] best practices to support the health of students, staff, and families.”
“When met with challenges, America’s Healthiest Schools consistently respond with creativity and resilience,” said Kathy Higgins, chief executive officer at Healthier Generation. “We thank and honor these educators and administrators for their dedication to building equitable school environments where students and staff can thrive.”
In total 879 schools across 30 states were awarded with this distinction and only 66 were honored as All Stars in all nine of the categories, which include strengthening social-emotional health and learning, cultivating staff well-being, increasing family and community engagement, improving nutrition and food access, implementing local school wellness policy, bolstering physical education and activity, enriching health education, promoting tobacco-free schools, and supporting school health services.
