Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear ordered that all flags on state office building property to be flown at half-staff on Nov. 8 in remembrance of the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife recruit that died on Nov. 1.
As previously reported, the recruit — later identified as William “Tex” Bailey — was participating in a water training exercise at the Barren County Family YMCA when he suffered a “medical emergency” and was taken to T. J. Samson Community Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
“I was saddened to hear of the tragic loss of Game Warden Tex Bailey,” Beshear said in the press release. “Britainy and I extend our deepest sympathies to his family and loved ones, as well as the entire Department of Fish and Wildlife.”
According to the release, Bailey began training with the department on Oct. 14 and was originally from Alabama.
The Kentucky State Police are conducting the death investigation and, at the time of publication, have not released any new information.
