The Barren County School system has announced Justin Browning as the district’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) Coordinator and Innovation Coordinator and Innovation Zone Assistant Principal.
According to a press release from the school system, Browning oversees work-based learning experiences for students and collaborates with local industry to help bridge the gap between a high school education and the demands of the real world.
“In my role I have the opportunity to be the primary point of contact for the teachers and their representative programs, as well as the Kentucky Department of Education and the entities that provide funding,” Browning said.
Browning says all 38 of the BCHS pathways, which span from business and agriculture to welding and beyond can be explored through the program.
“As for as Innovation Zone portion goes, that allows me to work on special projects for the district that help the district to explore choices, connect students to their interests in related fields and launch them, as prepared as possible, into well-suited career roles,” Browning said.
Browning added that the programs are a demonstration of ongoing efforts to be sure the school district is helping students choose career paths that are culturally and economically relevant today, and in the future.
“What’s coming down the road in a decade, that’s a thing we have to focus on, too. Ultimately my goal is to stay up to date on what is coming for the youth of Barren County,” Browning said.
The creation of this role and the work already being done in preparedness has already served the Barren County School District well.
“According to transition readiness indicators, based on industry certifications and education benchmarks, we are one of the top five districts in the state when it comes to helping students be prepared,” Browning said.
