In an effort to foster economic independence among low-income households, the Community Action Garden Program has been established.

County Coordinator, Sandy Hagans, elaborated on what residents would need to qualify for the program.

This initiative aims to empower individuals by equipping them with the necessary resources to kickstart their own vegetable gardens.

Speaking on the thought process behind the program, Hagans expounded on how this program not only gives participants a healthy food alternative that they may not otherwise be able to afford, but also acts as a way to bring communities closer.

Participants eligible for the program are provided with vouchers courtesy of Community Action of Southern Kentucky, Inc.

These vouchers can be redeemed for various gardening essentials, including seeds, plants, and fertilizers, thereby facilitating the initiation of their gardening endeavors.

The program has seen an outpouring of interest with nearly 100 vouchers being issued already.

Hagans pointed out that the program will end on May 15th, so those interested should act quickly.

For further details and inquiries, individuals are encouraged to reach out to the local office at (270) 651-8171.

This program stands as a milestone, offering tangible support to those striving for self-sufficiency in their communities.
