Dorothy Dean Ulmer

Dorothy Dean Ulmer, age 93, of Big Clifty, KY, passed away Tuesday, (March 12, 2024) at her home.

She was born on August 13, 1930 in South Union, KY, the daughter of the late Guy and Thelma Hayes Fugua.

She retired from St. Anthony Hospital in Louisville working in housekeeping. She worked as a cook at Grayson Manor in Leitchfield. Dorothy was a great cook, and loved to give food to her neighbors every time she cooked. She was known for her delicious jam cakes. She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She was very creative and enjoyed painting. She loved to paint rocks and was featured in the local paper for her paintings. She painted murals on different walls at her home. She married her late husband, Alfred “Harpo” Ulmer in1962. She was a member of Metropolitan Baptist Church in Louisville.

She is survived by her children, Billy Burgett, Brenda Grant (Albert), Larry Burgett, Michael Burgett (Sherry) and Tommy Burgett (Becky); thirteen grandchildren, twenty-nine great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Sandra Jean Burgett; her husband, Alfred “Harpo” Ulmer; a daughter-in-law, Alicia Burgett; and also the father of her children.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, (March 17, 2024) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Paul Fugua will be officiating. Cremation will follow the service with burial at a later date in Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin, KY.

Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. on Sunday until time of services.
