Fred Thomas VanMeter

Fred Thomas VanMeter, age 89 of Woodburn, died Wednesday, March 6, 2024 at the Medical Center in Franklin.   A native of Woodburn, KY, he was the son of the late Edward Allen Vanmeter and Martha Jane Hanley VanMeter.

Fred was a member of Salmons General Baptist Church. He was an employee of 3-M Sign Company in Nashville and was a farmer. He loved eating at the Hot Plate, fishing and being with his family.

He is survived by his daughter, Betty Jean Cummings of Woodburn; companion for 28 years, Sue Denning; granddaughter, Amy Cummings of Hawaii, grandson, Dustin Cummings (Hazel) of Costa Rica, Ember Naparstek (Mark) and Stacey Sloss; great grandchildren, Emerson, Shawn Ashlyn, Zander, Mattias, Astrid,  and his daughter in law – Bonnie Sloss.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen VanMeter, son in law, Dwight Cummings, son, Barry Sloss, granddaughter, Abby Cummings along with 7 sisters and 1  brother, Francis West, Mae Logsdon, Grace Alford, Myrtle Beals,  Mildred Vance, Mary Bennett, Sue Piltcher  and Henry Edward “Bill” VanMeter.

Funeral service will be held Saturday at 2pm at Salmons General Baptist Church with burial to follow in Woodburn Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 4pm until 8pm Friday and after 10am Saturday until service time at the church

 Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Crafton Funeral Home.
