Sandra Kay “Sandy” Meredith Kirtley, age 70, of Louisville, KY, passed away Wednesday, (January 24, 2024) at her residence. She was born on June 22, 1953 in Grayson County KY, the daughter of the late Cleborn and Agneta Ferguson Meredith.
She was retired from American Synthetic Rubber Company/Michelin and had worked at Lorillard Tobacco Company. She was the founding parent of the visually impaired preschool program in Louisville, KY. She was long-time supporter of Cedar Lake Lodge and became official family with them when her son, Adam, was admitted to the Lodge in 2006. She was a very active advocate not only for the residents of Cedar Lake, but also for all those with intellectual disabilities. Sandy provided a strong voice at both the state and national levels of government promoting residents’ rights and fighting for better opportunities for all. She had worked directly with adults with disabilities and made a career out of serving others. Sandy enjoyed decorating, flowers and traveling. She graduated from Clarkson High School in 1971, and then went on to receive her Associates Degree in Medical Coding. She also was a licensed Real Estate agent. First and foremost, Sandy was an excellent loving mother to her son, Adam. She was saved at any early age and was a member of Anneta United Baptist Church.
She is survived by her son, Adam Thomas Kirtley of LaGrange, KY; sisters, Karen Meredith Counts of Tennessee and Denise Meredith Snodgrass of Leitchfield; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Many friends and neighbors also survive.
Other than her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Gary Kirtley and an infant brother, Paul Ray Meredith.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, (February 3, 2024) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Bro. Garry Watkins will be officiating. Cremation will follow the service.
Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday and from 9:00 a.m. Saturday until time of services.
