Sonnie Wayne Matney

Sonnie Wayne Matney of Greensburg, Kentucky, son of the late Sonnie Matney and Lula Edwards Matney, was born on Wednesday, June 15, 1938 in Green County and departed this life on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at his home. He was 85 years, three months, and 12 days of age.

He made a profession of faith in Christ and attended the Union Chapel Church. He was a dairy farmer, owned/operated Matney Sawmill, and served in the United States Army.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Joyce Matney.

He later united in marriage and is survived by his wife: Elizabeth Risen Matney of Greensburg having united on June 1, 1978.

Other survivors include a son: Mike Matney of Greensburg; two grandchildren: Sarah Biscan and husband, Luke of Glasgow; Michael Matney and wife, Cheyenne of Campbellsville; five great-grandchildren: Bennett Biscan, Addicus Biscan, Jasper Biscan, Beckham Matney, Campbell Matney; a daughter-in-law: Kim Matney of Greensburg; a brother and sister-in-law: Gleason and Betty Matney; two sisters and a brother-in-law: Anne Harmon, and Stella Louise and Dennis Whitlock; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mr. Matney was also preceded in death by two sisters: Lenora Faulkner and Susie Hedgespeth; two brothers: Phillip Matney and Robert Matney.

The funeral services for Sonnie Wayne Matney will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Central Time, Sunday, October 1, 2023, at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Josie Pierce Cemetery with Full Military Honors by the Glasgow D.A.V. Bro. Wilburn Bonta, Bro. Adam Pruitt, and Bro. Mickey Pruitt officiating.

Visitation is requested from 4 P.M., until 8 P.M., Central Time, Saturday at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home and after 7 A.M., Sunday until time of the funeral service.
