Howard Dixon Childress, age 85 of Cub Run, moved on to his heavenly home to be with God on August 6th, 2023. He was at home with his loving family of Patty, Jeffrey, Beth and Wesley at the end of his days.
When Howard Dixon Childress was born on September 4th, 1937 , his father Elza Lee Childress was 29 and his mother Mabel Delphia Kessinger-Childress was 25 years old. Howard was born on his family farm located in Roseburg, Hart County KY. He was the 5th of 11 children. Howard attended Roseburg and Cub Run schools with his siblings. He was employed by Louisville Gas and Electric in Louisville, Jefferson County, KY for 25+ years when he retired in 1992. Howard was a prosperous farmer all his life and own farms where he raised tobacco, cattle and hay as well. Also , Howard sold real estate for some years. Howard was a member of the Cub Run Baptist Church where he professed his life to God. He accepted Jesus Christ as his savior in1976 at this church. When Howard married on November 5, 1960, he was 23 yrs old to Patty Lou Day who was 18 years old. Patty is the daughter of John and Mary Dorothy Lawler Day. They had 2 sons. James Howard was born and died July 9th, 1962. Next, Jeffrey Lynn was born on June 9th, 1965 at Glasgow, Barren County, KY. Howard and Patty lived in Cub Run, Hart County KY during his life.
Howard and Patty have one granddaughter, Elizabeth Diane (Wesley Woodcock) They have 3 step grandchildren named Charles, Ava, and Gabe Woodcock.
Howard had 6 brothers and five sisters. Preceding him in death were his parents; Elza and Mabel, Charles Leroy, Wilma Jean, Barbara Ann, Morris Newman, William Lee, Thomas Wayne, Ronnie Gene, and Celia Faye. Those living include Michael Ray (Betty), Helen Joyce (Jimmy Sanders) and Janice Sue (Donnie Willis).
Howard died living in God our Fathers presence, his life may change but does not end.
Funeral services will be held at Brooks Funeral Home in Munfordville, Hart County KY on August 9, 2023 from 9:00 to 3:00 CST. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 CST on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at Brooks Funeral Home and will be completed by Rev. Jimmy Sanders. Interment at Cub Run Cemetery, Cub Run, Hart County, KY following funeral services.
