The Bowling Green Police Department is actively investigating a homicide that occurred on Sunday, July 23 just after 10:00pm at the Muse Apartments located at 1799 Russellville Road. Bowling Green Police were called to to the residence for an assault in progress. When police arrived they observed Matthew Reynolds trying to keep pressure on the female victim, 21 year old Ayanna Morgan that had been shot. Police then rendered aid to Morgan until EMS arrived on the scene. She was transported to an area hospital and then airlifted to a Nashville trauma center where she died early Monday morning. Police believe Ms. Morgan was involved in a brief struggle prior to being shot.
Reynolds told police that he and his girlfriend, Payton Cardwell, were delivering food for Door Dash and when they drove to the back of the apartment complex, they seen a Hispanic male come around from the corner of the complex and was doing a gun motion with his hand. Reynolds said a navy blue Jeep Patriot came speeding through the parking lot and almost struck him. Reynolds advised police that the driver looked to be a black female with glasses in her mid 20’s and had dreads and they were driving so fast, he was not sure if anyone else was in the vehicle. Morgan also advised that he did not hear any guns shots in the area when he arrived at the apartments so it must have happened before he arrived.
Advanced Crime Scene Processors and Detectives were called to the scene and detectives are working to locate any surveillance video and speak to the residents who may help determine a suspect.
