James William “Jimmy or Jim” Coakley III

James William “Jimmy or Jim” Coakley III of Greensburg, Kentucky, son of the late James William “JW” Coakley II and Dorothy Warren Coakley was born on Monday, October 10, 1955 and departed this life on Tuesday, July 4, 2023 peacefully at his home. He was 67 years, eight months, and 25 days of age.

He obtained an education from the University of Kentucky and Eastern Kentucky University where he studied geology and soil science. He was a registered Professional Geologist in Kentucky and Tennessee and had a nearly 40-year career in land management where he specialized in coal and other natural resources. He was a member of the Green County Historical Society and the William B. Allen Lodge #704. He was known to stand out in a crowd for his dynamic and memorable personality. His generosity and caring heart made him beloved by a host of family and friends. Among his favorite things in this world were his beloved family, children and grandchildren. He was also an avid outdoorsman and loved fishing, hunting, and fellowship with friends. He had made a profession of faith in Christ at an early age while he and his family were members of the Greensburg Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Linda Susan Braun Coakley of Tennessee, having united in marriage on November 1, 1986.

Other survivors include a son and daughter-in-law: Chase and Jennifer Coakley of Cookeville, Tennessee; a daughter: Jamie Lei Coakley of Clinton, Tennessee; two grandchildren: Easten Coakley and Emery Coakley both of Cookeville, Tennessee; and a host of other special friends.

Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by an infant daughter: Megan Fern Coakley.

The funeral services for James William Coakley III will be conducted at 12 Noon, Central Time, Saturday, July 8, 2023 at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home with burial to follow at a later date in the Greensburg Cemetery.

Visitation is requested from 9:30 A.M., Central Time, Saturday until time of the funeral service at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home.

The family has requested that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Green County Historical Society, the James William Coakley II Scholarship Fund, or the Coakley Family Cemetery Fund which can be made at the funeral home.
