Glasgow High School quick recall team to compete in National Championship

May 22, 2023 | 12:12 PM

With its strong finish at the Really Awesome Thumb-Racing Academic Competition Event, the Quick Recall team from Glasgow High School proved themselves worthy to play on a national stage.  On Friday, May 26, the team will represent their school in a 302-team national competition:  National Academic Quiz Tournaments’ High School National Championship Tournament.

Quiz bowl is a competitive, academic, interscholastic activity for teams of four students.  It is the national version of the game that is often locally called Quick Recall.  Quiz bowl teams use buzzers to answer questions about science, math, history, literature, mythology, geography, social science, current events, sports, and popular culture.  The matches feature a blend of individual competition and team collaboration, since no individual player is likely to be an expert in all subject areas.  Participation in quiz bowl both reinforces lessons from the classroom and encourages players to develop new intellectual interests.

Glasgow has attended the High School National Championship Tournament nine times before.

Glasgow may face familiar foes in Atlanta, as Danville, duPont Manual (from Louisville), and Greenwood (from Bowling Green) will also be attending.

On the weekend of April 28, the Glasgow team attended this year’s NAQT Small School National Championship Tournament in Rosemont, Illinois (near Chicago), achieving fifth place.

The team will be captained by William Parocai, who will be joined by Rudra Chaudhary, Danica Ingram, Diya Nair, Kasan Peters, and Mary Kate Vance.  The team will be coached by Todd Garrison, who will be assisted by Jason Dooley.

Tournament results will be updated throughout the three days of competition at http://www.naqt.com/go/stats/13402 so everyone can follow along and see how the team does.  You can also follow #hsnct on Twitter.
