STANFORD, Ky. (April 22, 2023) – The Kentucky State Police, Richmond Post, was contacted just before 7:30 a.m., Sunday, April 22, in reference to a two-vehicle collision on John Sims Highway in Lincoln County.
The initial investigation indicates Donnie Rains, 40, of Williamsburg, Kentucky was operating a 2002 Harley Davidson motorcycle and was traveling north on John Sims Highway, crossed the center line, and collided head-on into the path of a 2014 Subaru XV crosstrex, traveling south, operated by Brett Smith, 46, of Crab Orchard, Kentucky.
As a result of the collision, Rains was fatally injured, and Lincoln County Coroner, Farris Marcum, pronounced him deceased on the scene. Mr. Smith was transported to Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
Trooper Tyler Holt is conducting the ongoing collision investigation. He received assistance on the scene from Kentucky State Police personnel, Lincoln County Sheriff's Department, Lincoln County EMS, Lincoln County Fire Department, and Lincoln County Coroner’s Office.
