(BARREN Co. SCHOOLS)
GLASGOW – The first Barren County High School track and field meet of the season is this Saturday.
As part of the meet, the district is hosting its first unified track meet where high school athletes will compete alongside Special Olympic athletes. This is part of the school district’s efforts to include special needs students in athletic events throughout the district.
The special “unified” athlete will partner with a rostered athlete to complete the race. The rostered athlete will begin the race while the unified athlete will take over at the halfway mark and get the opportunity to cross the finish line.
The unified athletes will compete in three featured, according to a flyer published by the school district. The 50-meter dash, 100-meter dash, and 100-meter relay.
The flyer also detailed that food trucks “and more” will be present at the meet.
The meet will be held at 10 a.m. at the Barren County High School track field. The address is 475 Trojan Trail in Glasgow.
