GLASGOW — Weather forecasters are urging people to be weather aware Friday due to the likely chance of severe weather.
The National Weather Service says strong and severe storms are possible throughout much of northern Mississippi, Alabama and central Tennessee and Kentucky. Damaging wind gusts as high as 70 mph are also possible. Some areas may become flooded. A high wind warning is in effect through 9 p.m. for Barren County and counties east of it.
The greatest timing for the most severe weather in southern Kentucky is between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. CST. A cold front will move across the area behind the storms.
Barren County was placed late Thursday evening in the enhanced risk category for severe storms. The categorization means conditions are favorable for the development of severe weather. There is high confidence in non-thunderstorm winds through the afternoon and early evening, according to the National Weather Service.

Remember, a tornado warning means a tornado is occurring or will shortly. You should seek shelter if a warning is issued. A tornado watch means weather conditions favor thunderstorms capable of producing tornadoes. Preparations to access a safe place are urged if a watch is issued.
