Three arrested in alleged drug scheme at Barren County jail

Feb 25, 2023 | 10:28 AM

GLASGOW — Three people were arrested in connection to an alleged drug scheme that happened at the Barren County Jail in December.

The Barren River Drug Task Force said one of those charged was a former corrections officer. The investigation began on Dec. 28 after Barren County Jailer Aaron Shirley requested an independent investigation. Illegal drugs were getting inside the jail, according to a news release.

Edith Piercy, 24, the former corrections officer, was interviewed about the incident. Detectives also found digital evidence of drug distribution within the jail. Piercy was linked to the digital evidence, police said. The evidence suggests Piercy was paid to bring certain illegal drugs to the jail with the intent to distribute them to certain inmates.

A Barren County grand jury returned an indictment for the arrest of Piercy and two inmates. All three were arrested and charged on Feb. 24.

Piercy faces a criminal indictment for engaging in organized crime and first-degree promoting contraband. She was lodged at the Barren County Jail and was later transferred to the Warren County Regional Jail.

Shasta Vaughn, 35, of London, and Amber D. Huff, 23, of Glasgow, were also served with the indictment warrants and face the same charges. They remain lodged at the Barren County Jail.

The investigation continues.
