GLASGOW — Barren County treasurer Jenny Hoffman has resigned.
A letter of resignation was provided to Barren County Judge/Executive Jamie B. Byrd sometime before Monday, Jan. 16. The letter, provided to news media on Wednesday, indicates the resignation was effective Saturday, Jan. 14.
“Not only did you hire in a new staff at a higher rate of pay, but you have several people who were already employed with the County a significant raise as well,” Hoffman said in the letter. “The one thing you did not do was increase my pay.”
Hoffman’s letter describes her frustrations, which apparently began after Byrd put forth a series of new hires when she took office at the turn of the year. Hoffman said she wanted “to walk out that very day.”
“That immediately let me know that I was not important to you or your administration,” the letter said.
Magistrates are expected to meet in a special-called session on Thursday afternoon to replace the county treasurer. WCLU News has learned a former treasurer could be appointed to the position while county officials search for a permanent replacement.
Thursday’s meeting is scheduled at 4:15 p.m. at the Barren County Government Center. The meeting is open to the public.
