GLASGOW — Barren County has been awarded $3 million in Community Project Funding from the federal government for two local projects.
Barren County has had two projects on the horizon including the Trojan Trail Bridge and the South Cooper Industrial Park. Last week, Barren County Judge/Executive Jamie Bewley Byrd was notified that the requests for Community Project Funding submitted through Congressman Brett Guthrie’s office were awarded in the amount of $3 million, covering the total project costs of both, according to a news release from the county judge/executive’s office.
“We are thrilled that both of the projects that were applied for have been fully funded. We are extremely thankful to Congressman Brett Guthrie and his staff for their assistance and support to secure the funding applied for,” Byrd said. “This is just the beginning of a coordinated effort between the fiscal court of Barren County to work alongside Barren County Inc, Barren County Economic Authority, Congressman Brett Guthrie, and other local entities and elected officials to move Barren County forward and bring new growth and revitalization to the community.”
The Trojan Trail Bridge Project has been appropriated the full $2 million amount that was requested, and the project on the South Cooper Industrial Park has been appropriated the full $1 million amount that was requested. This funding was announced last week in a separate release from the Barren County Economic Authority.
The Community Project Funding requests were a collaborative effort between Barren Inc., the Barren County Economic Authority, the Barren County Fiscal Court and Congressman Brett Guthrie.
The timeline for the projects to be completed are subject to the release of funds to the county by the federal government. Both projects will bring much needed updates to the county, the news release said.
