GLASGOW — Election Day is fewer than two weeks away. Here’s what you need to know.

Excused In-Person Absentee Voting

Voters with an acceptable excuse may vote across Kentucky through next Wednesday during “excused in-person absentee voting.” The voting methodology was developed by the Kentucky legislature following drastic modifications made during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is similar to mail-in absentee voting except voters get to cast their ballots in person. View accepted excuses here.

“It pretty much puts the burden on the voter to kind of prove that you have a reason that you’re not going to be available on Election Day,” said Barren County Clerk Helena C. Birdwell.

While the Barren County Clerk’s Office is open the last Saturday of each month, they will not conduct election business here Saturday, Oct. 29. The state has placed a restriction on the days voters may vote during the early-excused absentee period, which are the six business days from Wednesday, Oct. 26 through Nov. 2.

“That would be a disadvantage to other counties and other county clerks across Kentucky if Barren County was offering 6 1/2 days of early voting for our voting,” Birdwell said.

No-Excuse In-Person Absentee Voting

Early no-excuse voting across Kentucky is slated for Thursday, Nov. 3 through Saturday, Nov. 5. All registered voters in the state may cast their ballots during this time.

Barren County voters will cast ballots at the Barren County Extension Office at 1463 W. Main St. in Glasgow. The location will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
