GLASGOW — A superintendent recommendation to the Glasgow School Board of Education is expected Monday evening after several weeks of a search.

Keith Hale, the school system’s former superintendent, announced May 10 he would resign his position effective June 30. Larry Hammond is handling superintendent duties meanwhile, according to the school district’s website.

A search committee was formed to seek and put forth a superintendent recommendation. Nine candidates submitted applications to the screening committee, according to a news release from the Kentucky Association of School Administration. Eight of the candidates are in-state while one is not.

“Prior to appointing a new superintendent, the Board of Education will consider the finalists recommended by the screening committee,” said Phil Eason, a consultant to the board of education, in a May 17 news release. “However, the board is not required to appoint a superintendent from the committee’s recommended candidates. Ultimately, the board has the legal authority and responsibility to appoint the superintendent.”

Eason said the newest superintendent should be revealed by July 25. Duties would begin Aug. 1.

A closed session discussion is planned at the meeting Monday, but no action is expected to come of it, according to a board agenda released last Friday. A media timeline released by the committee requires a recommendation be made by July 11, however.

The search committee includes Reggie Hayden, a school board member; Justin Stinson, principal representative; Lisa Bartley, teacher representative; Chasity Lowery, teach representative; Shannon Faenza, classified employee representative; and Stephanie Dickerson, parent representative.

The Monday meeting of the school board is slated to begin at 6 p.m. at the GIS Central Office, which is located at 711 S. L. Rogers Wells Blvd. Meetings are open to the public.
