TEMPLE HILL — A week full of pageants, carnival rides, tournaments and food kicks off Tuesday evening with the introduction of this year’s Barren County Fair.

The gates will open each evening at 5 p.m., according to the fair’s website. The carnival opens at 6 p.m. and runs through Saturday, July 2. Entry through Thursday is $10 per person, while Friday and Saturday entry costs $15. Children whose height is below 36 inches are admitted free.

“Both nights are a pretty good deal compared with the way things look these days,” said Brian Pedigo, a member of the Temple Hill Lions Club. “Get your admission, and go ride all you want, and just have a big old time.”

Pageants for infants, youth and teens will headline much of the week. A truck and tractor pull are planned Saturday at 7 p.m. while a demolition derby is scheduled Friday at the same time. The two events were changed switched from their normal placement in the weekend, Pedigo said.

The fair was canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic but was held last year. Alongside the weekend changes, the Lions Club said a new event will headline the fair’s opening night – catfish wrestling.

“Two individuals get into a tank of water and try to manually catch a catfish,” Pedigo said. “The first one who does it moves on to the next round.”

The first place winner will receive $300 and second place will get $200. A $15 entry fee will apply, and participants must be at least 15 years old to compete. Call (270) 590-0024 for more information.

Other events throughout the week include remote control car racing and a youth ATV rodeo, cornhole tournament, floral hall and a youth pedal pull. Click here to see the complete schedule.

A dairy show is planned July 8 at 6 p.m. A livestock show is slated for July 9 at 6 p.m.

The fairgrounds are located at 10168 Tompkinsville Road.
