GLASGOW — City garbage and landfill costs could increase as soon as July 1.

All trash collected by the city of Glasgow is subject to a recent first reading passage of an ordinance. The Glasgow City Council voted to accept amendments to the rules and regulations affecting city garbage collections.

The ordinance must undergo two readings before it becomes effective.

Residential, apartment and mobile homes would be subjected to a monthly rate between $10 and $14 if the proposed ordinance is passed. The rates currently vary from $8 to $12 per month.

Business and commercial customers’ monthly rate would increase from $15 to $19 each month. And additional city-issued roll dumpsters would increase from $5 to $7 each month.

Loads headed to the Glasgow Regional Landfill would also increase with the ordinance’s passage.

Waste generated from a residential source with city origin would increase from $1.30 to $2.50 per 100 pounds, and it will be subjected to a minimum charge of $20 per load, which would increase from the current $9 per load.

The Council is expected to vote on the matter again on Monday, May 23 at 7 p.m. Meetings are held on the third floor of Glasgow City Hall.
