GLASGOW — A street inside the city limits will soon take up a new name.

The Glasgow City Council voted Monday to change Myrtle Street’s name to Moran Street. The portion of roadway extends from West Cherry Street to the intersection of Kentucky Street and Lincoln Road.

Larry Glass, owner of Glass Holdings along Myrtle Street, proposed the name be changed to honor Murphy Moran Demunbrun, his late father-in-law.

Glass agreed to cover all costs for residents when the street’s name is changed.

“I just felt like it was the fair and right thing to do,” Glass said.

Expected costs to residents will include driver’s license replacements and work absences. He said he knocked on every door along the street in hopes of speaking with residents.

“I’ve been raised by a mother and father that always told me that you want to treat people like you want to be treated,” Glass said. “So, I felt like they needed to hear it from my mouth – what was going on, why I asked for it, and what I’m willing to do to help them through this process.”

The Barren County YMCA will assist residents with the name change, too.

It’s unclear when the street’s name will be officially changed.
