Timothy Gillenwater, longtime attorney, dies at 70

GLASGOW — Timothy J. Gillenwater, a longtime attorney and community member, has died.

Mr. Gillenwater died at his South Fork home Sunday, according to his obituary. He was 70.

Aside from his legal career, he was a storyteller, political leader, poet, rugby player and mentor. Mr. Gillenwater was born in Barren County in 1951 and lived in the Norris Court neighborhood before his family moved to their South Fork Road farm in 1962.

The criminal defense and personal injury lawyer practiced for 40 years. Mr. Gillenwater graduated from Vanderbilt University’s law school in 1977.

Mr. Gillenwater won the Democratic nomination for Barren County Judge Executive in 1993 and served as the longtime chairperson of the Barren County Democratic Party.

“Tim was passionate in his conviction that everyone was entitled to equal access to educational and economic opportunities,” according to his obituary.

He’s survived by his wife, Kimberly, and two adult sons, Justin and James.

There will be no public service. A memorial gathering for family and a few close friends will be planned later. AF Crow and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
