Newcomers begin to file for local office upon filing deadline extension

GLASGOW — Candidates continued to file for political office as the former filing deadline loomed last week. The deadline is now Jan. 25.

The Kentucky General Assembly extended the filing deadline due to redistricting of congressional and judicial lines. Governor Andy Beshear signed last week the bill extending the deadline.

Below is a complete list of candidate filings since the filing window’s opening Nov. 3.

Barren County Judge Executive

Jamie B. Byrd (R) and Micheal Hale (D), the incumbent, have filed.

Barren County Magistrates

Barren County has seven magisterial districts. The office is elected every four years.

  • District 1 — Shannon R. White (R) and Jefferey C. Botts (R) — the incumbent.
    District 2 — Kim Lambert (R), Derek Scott Pedigo (R), Jesse Muse (R) and Gala Huddleston (R). The incumbent is Trent Riddle (D).
  • District 3 — Tim Durham (R), Steve Roberts (D) and Tony Richey (R). Carl Dickerson (R) is the incumbent.
  • District 4 — Chris Eaton (D), David Steinhaus (R) and Tim Coomer (R) — the incumbent.
  • District 5 — Jason Simmons (R), Jackie Perkins (R), Troy A. Robertson (R), Benjamin S. Nuckols (D) and Beverly B. Harbison (D). Mark Bowman (R) is the incumbent.
  • District 6 — Ronnie Stinson (D). Kenneth Sartin (R) is the incumbent.
  • District 7 — Matt Keith (R), Paul Furlong (R), Brad Groce (D) and Mike Haynes (R). Billy Houchens (D) is the incumbent.

The mayor and city council races are non-partisan which means candidates do not file with a party attached. Only seven of Kentucky’s 416 cities hold partisan elections, according to the Kentucky League of Cities.
