Metcalfe County candidates begin filing for 2022 primary election

EDMONTON, Ky. — The Metcalfe County primary election is shaping up as candidates continue to file their candidacy papers in the county clerk’s office.

Shannon Fields, Metcalfe County clerk, said several people filed their papers upon the filing window’s opening.

The Clerk said the Metcalfe County Board of Elections is expected to meet soon to determine precinct locations for the 2022 primary election. The pandemic shifted locations in last year’s elections.

Fields is completing the term of former clerk Carol Chaney. Chaney retired Dec. 31, 2020, and Fields was appointed county clerk of Metcalfe County.

Of those who have filed, several are Democratic candidates.

Fields filed for the office of Metcalfe County Clerk. She has worked in the clerk’s office for 22 years, she said. Fields filed as a Democrat.

Larry N. Wilson filed for the office of Metcalfe County Judge Executive. Wilson filed as a Democrat. He is the incumbent coroner.

Dr. Benny Lile filed for the Metcalfe County Judge Executive’s office. He filed as a Republican. Lile is the former superintendent of Metcalfe County Schools.

Sharon B. Howard filed as a Republican candidate for Metcalfe County Attorney. Howard is the incumbent Edmonton city attorney. She lost to incumbent Barry Gilley in the 2018 primary election.

Dr. Mark W. Froedge filed as a Democratic candidate for the coroner’s office. Froedge is a dentist in Edmonton.

Lee Ann C. Jones filed for the office of Metcalfe County Coroner. She filed as a Democratic candidate.

Greg Wilson filed as a Democratic candidate for the coroner’s office. He is the former Metcalfe County Judge Executive. He was defeated by incumbent Harold Stilts in the 2018 General Election.

Tony E. Shockley filed for the office of Metcalfe County Sheriff. He filed as a Republican. Lonnie Hodges is the incumbent sheriff.

Keith Corum filed for Metcalfe County’s fourth magisterial district. He filed as a Republican. Ronnie Miller is the incumbent for the district.
