Kenneth Emory Simmons

Kenneth Emory Simmons, age 87, of Glasgow, KY passed from this earth to his heavenly  home on September 26th, 2021.  He was born on November 10th, 1933, to the late James Simmons and Beatrice Barbour Simmons. Kenneth graduated from Temple Hill High School and soon after joined the U.S. Army, and during his service was stationed at Fort Knox, KY and Fort Bragg, NC.  He was a staff sergeant and became a paratroope in the 82nd. division.  After serving 3 years, he returned home and bought his first farm.  Kenneth loved God, his family and farming.  He was well known as one of the best tobacco farmers in Barren County and prided himself in raising impressive tobacco, corn crops and his dairy cattle.  Hoeing out tobacco, plowing a field or putting up hay, He enjoyed working outside.  Kenneth also loved to go fishing after church Sunday afternoons with his kids and grandkids. Kenneth was a member of Poplar Spring Missionary Baptist Church where he served as song leader, Sunday school teacher and lifelong Deacon.  He served his community by chairing the Barren County Board of Education during the 1970’s when the 4 separate high schools were merged together into Barren County High School.  He is survived by his wife of almost 67 years, Rose Maxey Simmons of Glasgow, 3 sons: Jeff Simmons (Debi) of Glasgow, Randy Simmons (Susan) of Glasgow, Tommy Simmons (Tara) of Murfreesboro, TN.  1 daughter:  Debbie Reed (Clint) of Lexington, KY; 8 grandchildren: Jenny Pickerel (Brian) and Chad Simmons, both of Glasgow,
Jordan Gatewood, and Alyssa Kossick (Ian) both of Lexington, Brooke Smith (Garrett) of Glasgow, and Brie Simmons of Glasgow, Spencer Simmons, and Morgan Simmons both of Murfreesboro, TN.   Surviving great grandchildren include Olivia Grace, Grayson, Lorabeth, Paisley Jane Pickerel all of Glasgow, Anna Rose Simmons and Olivia Grace of Glasgow, Laurel Jane Smith of Glasgow.

Surviving siblings 5 brothers: James Robert Simmons of Ft. Worth TX, Delmer Simmons (Ruth) of Glasgow, Danny Simmons (Nancy) of Glasgow, David Simmons of Glasgow, Tony Simmons (Deborah) of Glasgow, 1 sister: Betty Hopkins (Ewing) of Glasgow.

Kenneth is proceeded in death by his eldest grandson, Chris Simmons of Glasgow. Siblings proceeded in death, 1 sister: Emma Lou Pendygraft of Glasgow, 3 brothers:  Bill Simmons of Glasgow, Roger Simmons of Crestview, FL. Leroy Simmons of  Scottsville, KY.
Special care givers: Kristy Grider, Madison Murley Austin, and Jenny Pickerel.

Funeral service will be 2:00pm Saturday, October 2nd at the Poplar Spring Missionary Baptist Church with burial in the Barbour Family Cemetery. DAV Chapter #20 will provide Military Honors.  Visitation will Friday from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at the A.F. Crow Funeral Home and on Saturday from 10:00am until time for the service at the church.
