A LARGE CONTINGENT WELCOMES GLASGOW’S FIRST RADIO STATION 75 YEARS AGO.

The photo above is from September 25th of 1946 taken from the original tower location of WKAY, described as “the Cave City Road’.  Today it is 510 Happy Valley Road. The photo looks from where the tower once stood out toward the crowd  At the top of the picture, the cars off the road are sitting where the present day Enterprise Car Rental is located and the former office of Dr. Hood. It clearly was ‘out in the country’

From the Glasgow Republican September 27th 1946-:GLASGOW ON THE AIR WITH STATION WKAY AT 1490″-At 2, on the dot, the juice went on and announcer Lowell Passe announced to  waiting world tht “Glasgow Was On the Air”, as the audience rose at the first strains of the “star Spangled Banner”, followed in immediate succession by an invocation by Dr. Charles W. Knight, pastor of the Glasgow Baptist Church,  reading of the 98th Psalm by Rev. Kenneth H. McCorkle of the Christian Church.  At that point the program was turned over to Mayor S.C. Harlin for an official greeting from the City of Glasgow, and the introduction of of distinguished guests, foremost of whom were Congressman Frank > Chelf, and Republican Candidate Don V. Drye, both of Lebanon.
