Barren County Parks and Recreation Fall Ball Registration ends today. You may go to their Facebook page to find the link to register.

Registration is ongoing for the Glasgow Parks and Recreation Fall Soccer Signups ends today. Coaches are needed.  Register online at glasgow.recdesk.com.

The 5th Annual Charity Golf Scramble will be this Saturday beginning at 8:00am at the Shady Hollow Golf Course, located at 985 Ramsey Road in Cub Run.  Bring your own team, cost is $200, limited to first 36 teams – food, drinks, and snacks provided – proceeds will benefit local families through Santa’s Helping Hands.  For more information call 286-6165.

The Barren County Historical Society will present the life of Howard Scott Magers this Saturday, August 28 at 11am. This event will be held at the South Central Kentucky Cultural Center. Paula Ratliff Pedigo will be the speaker.

The 1974 Junior Class of Hiseville High School will have a class reunion this Saturday, August 28 at the Hiseville Christian Church Fellowship Hall.  A meal will be served at 6PM. The Etoile Community Fair and Horse Show will begin this Saturday at 9AM with the Antique Tractor Show and Cornhole Tournament. Contest and events all through the day with the Horse Show at 7PM.  Admission is free. The Department of Fish & Wildlife will conduct a class for anyone over twelve who needs to obtain an orange card to hunt. The class will be Saturday, September 4 from 8am until 4pm at Metcalfe County Extension Office. Concerned Citizens and Teachers along with local Family Resource Coordinators are banning together to host a golf Scramble to raise money for underprivileged children in need at Christmas in the Barren County, Glasgow and Caverna School Systems.  The “Angels for Angels” Scramble will be on September 22 at Barren River State Park.  Teams of four players can be entered, with an entry fee of 65 dollars each.  Be sure to enter your team as someone is going to win a new vehicle from Don Franklin Automotive.  Lots of other prizes will be awarded. The deadline to enter is September 1.  Call Catherine Brantley at 270-590 1154 and register today.  Locally businesses are invited to be a hole sponsor, tee box and food sponsors as a part of this big benefit golf scramble to help underprivileged children at Christmas. 26 year old Allen Jerome Johnson was killed tragically on July 26 in Hiseville. His family is asking for donations to help with his funeral expenses. If you would be able to help, just mail or give your donation directly to A F Crow and Son Funeral Home.

Join The Sneed Family on Wednesday, September 1 at 8:00 PM FOR A SING A LONG at the Cave City Convention Center outdoor Pavilion.  Bring your instruments and join the house band for a fellowship and sing of old hymns. No Admission Charge.

You are invited to Gospel Fest “Camp Meetin” at the Cave City Convention Center on Friday, September 3 at 7:30PM. Pastor Tim Hill, overseer of the Cleveland Church of God will bring the message and Voices of Lee from Lee University will be performing along with the Sneed Family & Tony Gore. The Sneed Family will host a Gospel Fest worship service at the Cave City Convention Center in Cave City on Sunday, September 5 at 10:30 am. The 2021 Watermelon Festival will be held on Saturday, September 4 beginning with a 5K Fun Run with registration beginning at 7AM on 3rd Street. Other activities during the day include a parade, cruise in, watermelon contests, kids’ games, concert, cake walk and a marble tournament.

The annual Wyatt-Steenbergen Reunion that was to be held on Sunday, September 5 at the Masonic Lodge in Austin has been cancelled this year due to the dangers from the rising covid-19 cases.

In addition to City of Glasgow City Hall, the following City of Glasgow Department of Public Works offices will be closed on Monday, September 6 in observance of the Labor Day holiday, Street, Sanitation, Transit, Stormwater and the Landfill Department. The Landfill will also be closed on Saturday, September 4.  Monday garbage and recycling will be collected on Tuesday, September 7.  Please have all garbage and recycling at the curbside by 7:00am on Tuesday, September 7.

 

The Glasgow Transit System is reducing services due to Covid Quarantine Staffing Issues.  The hours will now be 6:45AM to 11:10AM and then 11:45AM to 2:30PM. Use bus #60 on time table on the current schedules.

American Red Cross Kentucky Region disaster volunteers are trained to respond to all types of disaster and “Heroes Needed” is a great opportunity for new volunteers with no disaster training to become Red Cross “Heroes” in just a few days. You will receive basic skills to become a disaster responder in Sheltering or Health Services and learn more about the Red Cross. Mary Wood Weldon Library is launching a new program in September where you can work on craft projects and chat with other crafters.  Bring your own project or work on one provided by the library on Wednesday, September 8 at 10am.

Down Syndrome of South Central Kentucky, 23rd Annual Step Up for Down Syndrome will be at the Bowling Green Ballpark on September 18. Gates will open at 10:00 am and walk begins at 11:30 am. Whether you have Down Syndrome, know someone who does, or just want to show your support, take the first step and donate or register today as we unite for a common cause and raise funds. There will be a Caverna High School Decision Based Council Meeting on Monday, September 13 in the high school library at 3:30PM.

Metcalfe County Relay for Life is scheduled for Saturday, September 18 at the Metcalfe County High School gym. The gym will be open to the public at 6:00 pm with entertainment by the Hornet Nest Pickers. There will also be delicious concessions prepared by Heart and Soul Catering by Phyllis Dean Stone Thompson and family. Opening ceremony will begin at 7:00PM and we will have special speakers and a presentation of our survivors, walk some laps, have a luminary ceremony at 8:00, followed with music by Glorified. We will finish with a closing ceremony at 9:30.

 

Barren County Middle School SBDM Council will meet on Tuesday, September 21 at 3:30PM at the school.  SBDM meetings are held the third Tuesday of each month.

 

Your local DAV Chapter 20 will provide you a free ride to Robley Rex VA hospital or any other VA clinic in the Louisville. These runs are made on Mondays only so be sure to schedule accordingly.  If you need a ride call 270-749-4907 to confirm your appointment and ride there.

T J Samson Stroke Ahead Support Group will meet each Tuesday at 4:30PM. This is for people who have had a stroke or suffered some other type of brain trauma.  For more information call Emily Grinstead at 659-5650.

 

Highland Hills Church has a food pantry every Wednesday from 4PM until 6PM and Saturday 9 to 11AM. Anyone that is in need of food may come. The church is located on Broadway in Glasgow.

The DAV will assist the Disable Veterans with their claims each Tuesday from 8AM to 12noon at the Lera B Mitchell Clubhouse.
