More people are hitting the road and taking vacations now that the COVID-19 pandemic is on the wane. With restrictions and mandates being lifted, many travelers wish to see one of the many national parks throughout the country.
One of those destinations, according to National Geographic, that could see an abundance of tourists this year is located right in our back yard: Mammoth Cave National Park.
The largest cave system in the world saw half a million tourists in 2019, according to the website. But that number fell to 290,000 last year due to the pandemic.
But those numbers are expected to rise. The park was recently listed as 7th in AirBnB’s top 10 trending destinations.
MacLean Lessenberry, the executive director for Glasgow-Barren County Tourism, says the economic impact this exposure brings is what she is excited about the most, but is extremely honored to be on National Geographic’s radar in general.
“Being listed in a publication such as National Geographic puts us on a bigger playing field than ever, and allows us to be reached by outdoor enthusiasts from across the U.S. and even the world.”
Tours are currently limited at Mammoth Cave National Park, so they recommend making reservations on their website.
