GLASGOW, Ky. — Barren Countians will have several opportunities soon to rid themselves of excess trash.
Glasgow DPW Free Shredder and Medication Take back Day
The Glasgow Department of Public Works will host its annual Shredder Day at 310 West Front Street on Saturday, March 20 from 9 a.m. to noon. The event is for individual citizens only.
No businesses are allowed. Separate dates for businesses will be announced at a later time, a news release said. Further questions should be directed to (270) 651-5977.
Glasgow Police will also be on the scene to accept medications for disposal. As a note, medication disposals are housed within Glasgow Police Department and the Barren County Sheriff’s Office everyday.
The service is free, and certain items will be accepted. Others will not.
Acceptable items:
- Paper
- Documents
- Phone books
- Newspapers
- Flyers
- Brochures
- File Folders (remove metal)
- Rubber bands
- Paper clips
- Staples
Unacceptable items:
- Plastic
- Cardboard
- Three ring binders
- Account ledgers (front and back hardcover cannot be shredded)
- Hardback books (front and back hardcover cannot be shredded)
- DVDs, CDs and floppy disks
- Binder clips
Glasgow DPW City Cleanup Week
The yearly opportunity to clean out the garage, basement or around the house begins March 22. The Glasgow Department of Public Works will begin picking up extra items with regular trash pickup on Monday, March 22 through Friday, March 26.
There are some stipulations to ensure the efficiency of the pickup efforts.
- Large items, bagged and boxed items should be placed at the curbside on normal trash pickup dates.
- All small items must be bagged or boxed. Loose items will not be accepted.
- All items must be by curbsides at 7 a.m. on the day of pickup.
- Items cannot be placed near or under trees, utility poles on trailers or against mailboxes. Those items will not be accepted.
- Tree and shrub trimmings must be no more than 3 feet. They must also be tied in a bundle.
- Resident who choose to take items to the landfill will be charged a fee.
Some items will not be accepted.
- Appliances
- Liquids
- Pesticides
- Auto batteries
- Auto parts
- Tires
- Asbestos
- Construction materials
- Large tree limbs
- Whole trees
Appliances are accepted at the landfill year round. All coolants must be removed from those appliances before drop off.

Barren County Cleanup Week
County trucks and dumpsters will be at designated drop-off locations across Barren County during the week of March 29 through April 2.
Due to limited contact, you must be able to unload and place trash in the provided dumpsters. It’s a free service to all Barren county citizens.

Cave City Cleanup Week
Cave City will host its annual city-wide clean-up March 29 through April 3. A large dumpster will be available across from the firehouse from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
No tires, paints or hazardous material will be accepted.
