CAVE CITY, Ky. — Authorities in northern Barren County were called to a recent child abduction.

Cave City Police responded to 503 North 3rd St. last Wednesday in reference to  a suspicious female in possession of an infant child. The caller apparently stated the female “didn’t even know the child’s name,” a news release said. The caller said the female proceeded to walk into a wooded area.

Police arrived and discovered the child and female along Old Horse Cave Road. The infant was taken into police custody.

Police identified the female as Jennifer Jones, XX, of Glasgow.

The mother, Rebekka Dennis, was contacted. She told authorities she went to a store and left the child with the father, Andrew Rutka.

Rutka went for a walk with Jones “at the request of Jones.” It’s unclear why Jones was in the area and how she knew Rutka.

Jones carried the child across the street to the Budget Inn and then to Countryside Inn. Rutka then told Jones he needed the diaper bag for the child.

Rutka left the child with Jones. The mother, Dennis, and Rutka returned and could not find Jones or the child.

The two had left in the time that Dennis and Rutka returned.

Jones was charged with custodial interference. She is lodged at the Barren County Detention Center.
