Area golf teams qualify for state golf tournament

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Members from the Lady Scottie, Barren County Trojan and Trojanette golf teams advanced to the state tournament after playing at Tuesday’s KHSAA Regional Golf Tournament held at Franklin Country Club.

Lady Scottie players Abbie Lee, Nina McMurtrey and Bailey Birdsell qualified for the state tournament. Trojanette players Bree Russell and Taylor Gaunce also qualified.

The Trojans also saw success, and Jameson Corbin, freshman, qualified for the KHSAA Boys State Tournament, which begins Oct. 5.

The Lady Scotties scores from Tuesday’s tournament are as follows:

  • Abbie Lee, 73 (second overall best score)
  • Nina McMurtrey, 75 (fifth overall best score)
  • Bailey Birdsell, 84
  • Graycen Flatt, 85
  • Allie McCoy, 86

The team total was 317, which meant they finished runner-up in the tournament.

The Barren County Trojanettes finished third in the region with a team total of 349. Gaunce won a three hole playoff, which qualified her for the state tournament. Overall, Gaunce shot an 85 and Russell shot a 79.

Barren County Trojans’ Coach Kelly Taylor reports Corbin shot an 80, which qualified him for the state tournament. Mason Trent and James Corbin shot 91 each. Evan Johnson shot a 92, and Kiler Keeny shot 99.

The Scotties placed fifth in the regional tournament with a team total of 328. Monroe County placed fourth with a team total of 327. Greenwood won the tournament with a team total of 306.

The state tournaments begin for boys and girls on Oct. 5 and Oct. 8, respectively.
