Born to the late Henry (Elk) and Lula Barnwell Hamilton of Calhoun County, Alabama, “Jimmy” was a retired Navy Chief and Postal Clerk. He was a fine storyteller who possessed, to the end, remarkable clarity of mind and memory, natural charm, and a welcoming smile.

James was preceded in death by a wife, Evelyn Dean, sister, Elsie, two brothers, Dan and Brian, and a son-in-law, Wayne Hunter.

He is survived by two daughters, Susan Berry and Melinda Hunter, and a son, Jeff; a son-in-law, Jimmie Berry; three grandsons, Justus (Ellen), John-Seth, and Jordan (Kaney) Hunter; and four great grandchildren, Justus II, Miles, Lucy, and Rose. James will be laid to rest in the cemetery at White’s Gap Baptist Church in his beloved hometown of Jacksonville, Alabama.

The family would like to thank Christian Health Center and Chandlers Park Assisted Living for excellent care. Arrangements have been entrusted to J.C. Kirby & Son Lovers Lane Chapel
