WKU Track and Field to host Hilltopper Relays: Celebrating senior day and record-breaking performances

BOWLING GREEN – WKU Track and Field is set to host the annual Hilltopper Relays on Friday and Saturday at the Charles M. Ruter Track and Field Complex.

During Saturday’s event, the team will also celebrate Senior Day, honoring eight seniors. Ilana Anderson, Rachel Flinchum, Netanya Linares, Zack Martinez, Devon Montgomery, Rory O’Connor, Lucy Rutherford, Grace Turner will all be recognized for their dedication to the program.

During the recent Yellow Jacket Invitational at Georgia Tech, WKU saw 12 athletes set new personal records. Among them, Wade Balcom excelled in the 800m, finishing 11th out of 32 with a personal best of 1:54, while Trevor Hudnall also achieved a new PR.

In field competition, graduate student Netanya Linares achieved a personal best in the javelin, with a throw of 35.27 meters.

This weekend, the Hilltoppers of WKU will face off against teams including Ferris State and Brescia in their upcoming track and field meet. The action-packed event begins on Friday at 11 am with the hammer throw, followed by the 5000-meter race scheduled for 5:30 pm. Day two starts at 9 am with field events such as the women’s discus and triple jump, followed by the men’s discus. Noteworthy among the competitors is veteran Luke Stegman, fresh from a personal best throw at the Yellow Jacket Invitational.

Three Hilltoppers, led by Senior Grace Turner along with freshmen Sophia Roskoski and Natalie Papes, will vie for top honors in the women’s pole vault. On the track, the excitement continues with the 4×100 race scheduled for noon. In the afternoon, spectators can look forward to the women’s 800-meter race at 2:10 pm, followed by the men’s. The hurdles will then take center stage with the men’s 110 and the women’s 100 events. The meet will culminate with the thrilling 4×400 relays starting at 5:10 pm.
