BOWLING GREEN – The Glasgow Scotties’ season ended as they were defeated by the defending state champions, the Warren Central Dragons, by a score of 71-36 in the 4th Region Tournament on Monday. Glasgow finishes the season going 11-17 overall, 9-12 in region play, and 5-4 in the district.

“It was a tough loss,” said coach William Buford. “We had too many unforced turnovers, and you can’t do that against a team of that caliber.”

The Scotties’ offense was led by sophomore forward Landon Minton who scored 9 points, while adding 1 block, 1 steal, and one rebound. Other scorers for Glasgow included, J.C. Walbert (8 PTS), Jerrick Martin (7 PTS), Jeremiah Moore (4 PTS), Jaylen Bradley (3 PTS), Jeremiah Driver (3 PTS), Quinn Nunley (2 PTS).

The first quarter was exactly as anticipated, both teams came out playing fast and aggressive. The Dragons, off 42% shooting, took an early advantage at the end of the first, 14-12. From that point on, Warren Central used their smothering defense to help force turnovers which led to points for the Dragons. At the half, Warren Central took a 38-19 lead. The Scotties’ offense would never recover from the poor first half shooting as they would score 9 in the third and 8 in the fourth. The Dragons, while a great test for this young Glasgow team, proved to be too much to handle as they scored 42 points in the paint while grabbing 54 rebounds on the night.

“Basketball has always been my getaway from the real world, so it hurts. It hurts that we just lost,” said senior guard J.C. Walbert. “I knew I was going to have to step up whenever we got a new coach. I wouldn’t say I was the best, but I learned and I grew and I just helped my guys get better along with myself.” Walbert played big minutes for Glasgow this season, averaging 15.7 points/game on 44.6% from the field. J.C. was 81.4% from the free-throw line while grabbing 4.2 rebounds.
