The Glasgow Independent Schools Board of Educations meeting was held Thursday, Feb. 22 at 6:30 p.m. at the newly renovated South Green Elementary.

The board met with one absence, Boardwoman Mary Burchett-Bower. With a lengthy list of items to get through Chairwoman Amelia Kiser called the meeting to order.

Updates on the continuing renovations were given by Tommy Gumm, representative for the Lyons Corporation working on the renovations.

Gumm told the board, “We are in the final phases of it all.” Superintendent Chad Muhlenkamp was optimistic about the remaining projects being completed in a timely manner, with Gumm adding that the work left is minor siting door issues and lettering to be added to walls as the most time consuming.

Staffing allocation were discussed next, Boardman William Thornbury asked if any changes or concerns were raised in regard to the allocations, “There are some little things, like we have noticed an increase in student numbers,” answered Muhlenkamp “but we still plan to maintain the one to 24 ratio.”

With that the board passed a motion to keep with the school systems 2023 procedure of one educator per 24 students.

The board then moved on to the matter of maternity leave for its staff. Staff members who need to take the time off will, with notice in writing, be eligible for one year unpaid leave.

Muhlenkamp recognized that, “Employees will have their job held for them, but that it’s not guaranteed they will be at the same school or hold the same position when they return.”

Lastly, the board accepted nine donations totaling more than $7,000 to go to schools within the district and programs that they offer.

With no further items a motion to adjourn was made with the next meeting scheduled for March 11th.
