Johnny L. Russell, age 74, a lifelong resident of the Salem community in Edmonson County, departed this life on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at The Medical Center at Bowling Green. Johnny was born on October 1, 1949 to the late Arlie Virgil and Mona Saltsman Russell. He was married to his devoted, loving wife of fifty-one years, Judy Childress Russell, who survives.

Johnny proudly served our country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era.  He worked for many years at Davis H. Elliott, and retired as a foreman.  He joined New Salem United Baptist Church on October 27, 1963, and remained a member until his passing.  In recent years, he attended Bee Spring Missionary Baptist Church, and was also a member of the Edmonson County DAV Chapter 32.

Johnny never met a stranger, and was a friend to all who knew him.  He loved being outdoors, either behind the sights of a rifle deer hunting, casting a line from his bass boat or just sitting on the front porch waving to his neighbors as they passed by.

Besides his wife, Judy, he leaves to honor his memory— his children, Chad Russell (Beth) of Glasgow and Megan Saling (Chris) of Wingfield; grandchildren, Kaylee Russell, Will and Wade Saling, along with several other extended family members and friends. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Vannie Duvall, Betty Carroll, Terry and James Russell.

Interment will be in Salem Church Cemetery.

Memorial contributions can be made to: Edmonson County DAV Chapter 32 or the DAV Auxiliary, 121 Washington St, Brownsville, KY 42210.
