Jessie Merlene (Richey) Butler, 80, of Tompkinsville passed away Saturday, October 14th, 2023 at her home.

Born February 22, 1943, to the late Jesse Woodrow Richey and the late Mildred (Proffitt) Richey in the Etoile Community of Barren County.

On May 27, 1961, she married Eagle “Bert” Butler of Tompkinsville and moved to Monroe County. She was saved in 1962 and was a faithful member of Poplar Log Missionary Baptist Church in Tompkinsville, since October 1962. She took an early retirement in 1979, from Houchens Industries to be a stay-at-home mom to her 2 children Julianna and Nicholas. In 1985, she took it upon herself to begin cleaning Poplar Log Church. In 1992, she began working for Save-A-Lot until 2008. In her spare time Jessie loved to spend time with her grandchildren Derek and Emma. In addition, her hobbies were working in her flower beds,cooking, and helping anyone out that was in need.

Jessie is survived by her husband Bert of 62 years of marriage, daughter Julianna “Julie” Headrick and husband Bro Joe Neal Headrick; a grandson Derek Dalton Headrick and a granddaughter Emma Nichole Headrick. Two sisters Michelle Kennedy and husband Larry of Bowling Green and Marla Patrick and husband Daryl of Glasgow. Along with two nieces, Caroline Lyle and Diana Boughton of Glasgow; a nephew Fredrick Lyle of Cave City and a great-niece Samara Lyle of Glasgow.

Jessie is proceeded in death by a brother Albert Richey of Glasgow and a son Nicholas “Nick” Butler of Tompkinsville.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 18, at 11:00 a.m. at Yokley Trible Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Monroe County Memorial Lawn.

Visitation is Tuesday, 4-8 p.m. and Wednesday, 8:00 a.m. until service time at 11:00 a.m. at Yokley Trible Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Jessie’s memory may be made to Poplar Log Church.
