J.C. “Bub” Waddell, age 85, of Three Springs, passed away Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at his home. He was a native of Hart and Metcalfe Counties, living all of his life in the Three Springs area.

Bub united in marriage to Norma Ruth Nunn on June 1, 1957. Bub and Ruth moved to their current residence (Ruth’s family farm) in 1961 where they loved and reared a large family, consisting of five children, five children-in-law, 14 grandchildren (along with their spouses), and 26 great-grandchildren.

Bub served as an Elder for the Center Church of Christ for approximately 50 years. He loved his church family and the surrounding community families as if they were his own. He enjoyed serving others.

Bub was involved in agriculture all of his life, both as a dairy farmer and a consultant at Metcalfe Farm Supply in Edmonton. He avidly read to be educated and to keep up with the progression of farming. Bub loved to experiment with new farming trends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Creal Brownlee Waddell and Lavora Smith Waddell Gossett; sisters, Wanda Hope Weller and her husband Billy, June Burks and her husband Charlie; one brother-in-law William Earl Hedgepeth.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ruth Nunn Waddell; his children, Carey Waddell (Lisa), Clint Waddell (Ivy), Craig Waddell (Sarah), Janey Cline (Billy), and Joni Peden (Jason); 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; on sister, Jean Hedgepeth; one brother, Don Waddell (Jan).

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, August 12, 2023 at Winn Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Houk Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2-7 PM on Friday, August 11, 2023 and from 8 AM – 2 PM on Saturday until time of service.
